This week a former student asked my advice about a job offer – well sort of a job offer – from a multi-level marketing company pushing faux perfumes. All she had to do was go through a day of training and buy a start-up kit.
Other recent college graduates report a lot of phishing posing as job ads – and I regularly receive phishing emails myself.
The silliest scam that I have heard about lately was a guy in Virginia Beach who went into restaurants demanding a refund because he supposedly got food poisoning – but he hadn’t gotten sick or even eaten at the establishments.
The Virginia Pilot Newspaper also reported a con-artist who advertised a house for rent on Craig’s List, showed the house to potential renters and collected deposits – on a house that he didn’t own.
