Subject: Mother's Day was three weeks ago...

This would have been a great post for that particular day.

My mom and dad passed many years ago. Neither were veterans.

I miss an uncle-in-law who passed four years ago. He served in the Army in WWII and was totally self sufficient and personally accountable for all he did. There are fewer and fewer of his kind left. His parents had their farm auctioned off during the real depression. He learned rather than whined about that and other life experiences. He never expected anything from anyone. He was confident, yet humble. He spoke his mind... and he was a true patriot. He could do virtually anything mechanical. He was married to his only wife for 58 years when he died. She died two years later.

He met with his WWII platoon buddies every year until the year before he passed. He always commented on the dwindling number of members each year. He watched his breed disappear. Sad for him... and sad for us.

Celebrating his generation on Memorial Day...
