Uncle Billstumps reminds me. when i was younger my dad had a stump puller. all i can remember is that it was a big mess of gears set on something like a wheelbarrow frame so you could push it around. you anchored one end to another bigger stump or tree with a cable then hooked the other end to the stump you wanted to pull out. it was alot of work, but you could crank stumps out of the ground by hand. sometimes on the tough ones the cable would snap and the whole rig would go flying end over end (careful where you stand). i guess it was built pretty solid. for those tough ones a little dynamite would loosen them up.
